Afghanistan Lowalee! (Afghanistan Reads!) is an award-winning adult literacy program delivered in communities across Afghanistan by Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan. During their one-year long literacy classes, students in the program also complete a course in life skills, covering topics such as health, hygiene, nutrition, child development, First Aid, and more. For the first time, the 10-chapter illustrated life skills manual used in the program is being made available online, in the Darakht-e Danesh Library, for anyone to read and use, and for other organizations to use in their own programs, whether in its entirety or for specific content. For instance, the hygiene chapter of the manual covers topics relevant to the prevention of viruses, and may be useful to organizations in need of health information to disseminate in the communities where they work.
The manual is licensed under a CC-BY-NC license, which means it is free to share, copy, redistribute, and adapt for non-commercial purposes. View or download the life skills manual in English, Farsi or Pashto in our Library. There is also a supplementary Women’s Rights guide in English, Farsi, and Pashto.
