The content in this course reflects research and implications derived from the fields of cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, perceptual psychology, and related fields. Education Reading Essentials Part 2 This course is Part 2 of two courses designed to help decision makers implement efficient and cost-effective reading programs that will teach nearly all students to read. The content in this course reflects research and implications derived from the fields of cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, perceptual psychology, and related fields. Education School Leaders Improving Inclusive Education Practices This course contains eight sections. It provides resources and an action guide to support Afghan school leaders in improving inclusive education practices. Each section should take about 4 to 5 hours to complete, spread over no more than two weeks. This course is a resource to support you and peer school leaders in networked improvement communities to work together to explore inclusion issues in schools. AFSO Statistical Concepts and Reasoning This course covers basic concepts in statistics including statistical vocabulary, data collection, data summary and graphical display. Students should come away from the course understanding statistical terms and graphics and able to do some basic analyses. They will be prepared for more advanced courses in statistics, data science or research methods. Education Teaching Critical and Creative Thinking This course is under development. AFSO The Making of the Modern Middle East and Afghanistan This course examines the history of the Middle East and Afghanistan in the last century or so through the collapse of empires, the emergence of modern states and the rise and consolidation of political Islam. We will emphasise the historical connections between these two regions by exploring themes such as the influence of European Colonialism and American Imperialism, the rise of secular Nationalism, and the impact of the Cold War as they shaped the establishment of the Islamic Republic in Iran and the rise and consolidation of the Taliban in Afghanistan. We will also study the history of countries and conflicts that are still in the news today: the Palestine/Israeli conflict and the consolidation of oil monarchies in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Qatar which now are the wealthiest in the world. AFSO Writing Descriptive Portraits In writing with detail, we will focus on writing portraits of people, objects, and scenes with descriptive detail that capture not only what we are seeing or remembering but also offer portraits of ourselves. This is a 5 week course on Mondays Feb. 26 to March 25 at 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Prev 123
